Measuring instruments supplier Royce Water Systems specialises in high-performance instrumentation designed for the most demanding environments. Operational since 2007, the company supplies specialised measurement and control products to mining and industrial sectors for a range of applications such as wastewater treatment, potable water and seawater measurement and monitoring.

Royce Water Systems’ portfolio of products includes instruments for precise measurement of flow, level, and pressure, as well as analytical, real-time monitoring of pH, chemical concentration, chemical oxygen demand, metals, turbidity, and sludge density.

In mining operations, measuring the density of abrasive, corrosive, and high-pressure slurries is challenging, as these materials can damage equipment. The WESS ENV200-C clamp-on ultrasonic density meter from Royce Water Systems offers a ‘fit-and-forget’ solution. The sensor clamps directly onto the outside of existing pipelines, allowing it to be installed while the process is fully running. This eliminates production downtime and the risk of leakage, and also protects the meter from damage by abrasive and corrosive media inside the pipeline.

The complete system, consisting of a non-invasive sensor, a controller, and a junction box, is engineered to ensure maximum data integrity in turbulent environments. It utilises a process condition monitoring algorithm that tracks changes in sound velocity and temperature to validate readings. Combined with envelope energy average technology, the system calculates total signal energy and not only amplitude changes, to provide maximum measurement stability.

While the clamp-on sensor is ideal for eliminating wear and tear, it is also available in spool-piece and tank-mount sensor options, designed to fit any plant or thickener configuration.

Royce Water Systems will be exhibiting a variety of instruments at Electra Mining Africa, to be held from 7 to 11 September in Johannesburg, including flowmeters, sludge density and sludge level meters, water quality monitoring stations, heavy metal analysers in water, and automatic wastewater samplers.
